How To Replace Your iPod Battery, Screen, or Hard Drive

iPodHowToVideo shows you how to open and replace the battery on most iPod models. While this may sound like an overwhelming procedure its actually not very difficult once you see it in action with all their tips and tricks.

The site also offers videos for replacing the LCD screens and the hard drives and is associated with a store that sells these replacement parts.

The site is free but they ask for donations as the bandwidth for serving videos can get very expensive quickly. I wonder why they just don’t use YouTube or Google Video for the video hosting and serving.

I still believe Apple should make the iPods with a battery compartment to making changing the battery easy as changing them in a TV Remote. My 30GB Video iPod 5.5G rarely lasts a full day of flying, it sure would be nice to be able to carry at least one spare battery with me.

Wouldn’t be nice if Apple REALLY cared about Real People with Real World necessities for iPods (and all their hardware, for that matter). Nooo, it is not Apple’s way. “We can design a nice little cute device, but making it Real Nice to Use is waaaay out of our league.”

Proof me wrong:
- Why can’t one open a Mac Mini case without almost surgical procedures?

- Same goes with keyboards, mice, and the list goes on and on…

Apple doesnt care about the people. Thats why they sell their products for soo freaking much. Does it really cost $50 to make a protector for the Ipod? No! But they can sell em for that, and make lots of money. I have no problems with my Ipod video, 30 gig 5.5g, but i find using Itunes really annoys me. Why cant they make it drag/drop? Because that makes you need to use Itunes, and when you use Itunes you are encouraged to buy from the apple store…

The warrenties are pretty much the same… virtually nonexistant. And apple dictates what the prices for its products are. Thats why the prices are the same pretty much everywhere you go.

And when i got my new Ipod, i was dismayed to find there was no installation CD for itunes, i had to go online to get it. What if i dont have internet? Or im on dialup? There are people who still use it, you know. And the documentation (or lack thereof) was depressing.

I really like the ipod unit, it works well for me soo far and does what its supposed to do. But Apple and Itunes really have me angry. Make your stuff geared more to the customer, not towards what makes you money.

Hey, I have recently modified my ipod to tri-boot ipodlinux, rockbox, and apple’s OS. I am really pleased with rockbox given how easy the installation was. Simply copy the .rockbox file into the main directory within the storage partition on your ipod ie, directory where data is stored. Then install some form of boot loader. I’m using bootloader2 which came with the ipodlinux installation. I have yet to really play with the ipodlinux installation but since my ipod is in win format I had to find a modified installer… that or format it with a mac PC. At any rate, I am very pleased with rockbox and would like to make it the primary OS but first I need to know what the mah rating is on the 5.5g 30gig battery is as rockbox by default reboots into apple’s os upon charge until you customize your settings. If you have any insight please help me out. Battery ID is 6K2508C… google yielded nothing.

PS - Sorry for saying so much, maybe it will help other linux users.

iTunes IS drag ‘n’ drop. Take one or 20 songs from any folder and drag them onto the iTunes icon or in the library window and they’ll be imported.
