A few weeks ago DolphinStadium.com, the web site for the stadium that was home to Super Bowl XLI, was hacked to spread malware and reportedly infected over 80,000 PCs. This week the Korea Information Security Agency is reporting that 1,000 Korean online game-related web sites were hacked to spread more malware, resulting in over 92,000 infected machines.
Just like the Super Bowl Site attack, the Korean hackers utilized known exploits in Windows to install keyloggers that could capture user ids and passwords, and possibly credit card and bank account information. Its important to note that fully patched systems were not vulnerable to either of these hacks.
Yesterday Microsoft released over 12 Critical and Important Security updates. If you haven’t visited Microsoft Update yesterday or today to download and install them you’re putting your system at risk.
