Yahoo! UI Library turns one

Not many people realize that Yahoo gives away a pretty handy JavaScript framework called the Yahoo! User Interface Library (YUI) and wow they’ve already been doing it for a year now.

Similar to jQuery, the YUI Library is a set of utilities and controls, written in JavaScript, for building richly interactive web applications using techniques such as DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX. The YUI Library also includes several core CSS resources.

All components in the YUI Library have been released as open source under a BSD license and are free for all uses.

Yahoo also offers a Design Pattern Library to help web designers follow their lead by using the same solutions for common design problems so users are not confused by different interfaces. If you’re a designer, set aside a few hours to look through it all, its well worth the time investment.
