That’s a great list of software for the Mac. Are most of them freeware or shareware?

Its a mix. Some are opensource/freeware, some shareware, some commercial software. I couldn’t say which is the majority.

Not in love with your list.
1. For example, why list both BBEdit and TextWrangler? TW is the free and less functional version of BBE. They are not really different.
2. You neglected to mention two great (in my opinion) programs:
a. Path Finder www.cocoatech.com) which adds Windows Explorer-like and more capabilities to the Finder. This is the most used program on my Mac.
b. Overflow www.stuntsoftware.com) which really helps in keeping a clena desktop.
3. FontBook is included with every Mac, so what is the point of listing it?

You didn’t say what they were! Now if I send this article to people, they are going to ask me. Either that or they will be overwhelmed and not bother.
