This past weekend, it was time for me to upgrade to a new computer system. Reluctantly, I decided to install 64-bit Windows 7 on the machine. I have already had several encounters of incompatibilities. I can’t get many legacy video games to install properly. I expected this incompatibilities like this, but I didn’t expect common hardware to be incompatible. The Linksys WUSB54G Wireless Adapter is still available for sale in many stores. The box only says it’s compatible with Windows Vista, but Cisco/Linksys has obviously supported the thousands who have bought this hardware and upgraded to Windows 7, right?
Well, you would be wrong. Neither Microsoft nor Cisco have provided any support or drivers whatsoever for the WUSB54G card afterover a year of Windows 7 being on the market. Luckily there are people out there who step up and help out the community. Bilal Jaffery has provided community drivers for version 4 of the WUSB54G hardware on the 64-bit version of Windows 7. To check to see if you have the proper hardware, you can flip the device over and check above the serial number.
If you have version 3 or below, I don’t believe there is a solution as I have looked everywhere for one. Luckily I had a version 4 card and these drivers have worked very well. Thanks to Bilal for doing something Cisco should’ve done months ago.
