Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of user experience, has indicated that the Chrome browser will be leaving the ‘beta’ stage soon. There is no definite date as to when the next release will occur:
“…Once Chrome is out of beta, OEMs can then absorb the browser into their computers, setting into motion Google’s plan to preinstall Chrome on new PCs.
The real question is whether Chrome is actually finished, and if its release will have any impact on Chrome’s browser market share numbers…”
The speed at which some Google products leave ‘beta’ may be questioned. Some people have used Google Gmail for years now. However, Gmail remains a beta version. At the top left hand corner of the Gmail log-in page, the graphic indicates the email remains in beta. There might be more speed in moving Chrome forward because of the potential profitability involved.
