Two years ago, a major player in the world of online business directories, approached me to develop a customized search engine marketing (SEM) service offering for small and local-based companies. Having focused Anvil Media on servicing Fortune 1000 companies, I hadn’t spent much time considering a scalable SEM service model. Over the next week or so, I modeled out a new type of SEM agency that could employ local talent, yet scale globally.
Fast forward to September 11, 2008. After beers with a buddy, the topic of creating an SEM agency that focused on helping small and local businesses Knowing I’d had a few conversations with potential clients and partners recently, I agreed the timing was right. I called a former co-worker to help with operations and got the ball rolling.
In roughly a month’s time, the idea went from concept to reality. It started with a set of services and process leveraging 8 years of Anvil Media‘s success, a handful of clients, a name and logo. Formic Media is now in the early stages of testing and refining the new process and services with our initial clients. The next step will be hiring and training a new team, with help from Anvil’s talented team.
While Formic Media has a placeholder for a home, the full site is under development.
