The chemical melamine has been implicated in another disaster in China. This time, thousands of dogs have died:
“Some 1500 Chinese dogs have died after eating melamine-tainted animal feed, the latest contamination involving the chemical in a scandal that has sickened tens of thousands of babies and raised questions about the prevalence of the toxin in the country’s food chain.”
Melamine is the same chemical contaminant that tainted pet food last year. It is the chemical that is at the root of the present contaminated milk scandal in China. The continuing reports of contaminated consumables from China does not foster confidence in buying imported products. There are not sufficient regulatory controls, even for products used within China, to safeguard exported goods.
