Katrina Memories

This morning I was going through some pictures and came across a few that I took days after Hurricane Katrina struck.  I thought I would share them with the community.  I was lucky, I didn’t loose anything and my apartment was largely undamaged with the exception of a small amount of water inside.  Since I do not have carpet, that was more of an annoyance than a problem.  Others in my community were not so lucky, as these pictures demonstrate.

The home above was picked up from its foundation and came to rest in the middle of the road.  The spray painted “Keep Out” signs were something seen at the front of most neighborhoods, warning others to stay out.  Looting was a huge issue and most people were willing to shoot first and ask questions later.

This home was stripped of everything, down to the studs.

This home, like many others, was completely destroyed.

This home was also completely destroyed, with the exception of one window that remained intact.

I will never forget the devastation caused by the storm, but I will also never forget that the whole community came together as one.  Everyone helping everyone else, one big family.
