Microsoft Confirms Downloadable Xbox Games For 360

After much speculation over earlier rumors and reports, Microsoft has come out and confirmed that come December 4, you will be able to purchase and play “Original” Xbox games such as Halo CE over the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. The games will cost 1200 points (about $15) a piece, a bit of a price considering you can buy the original hard copy for $10 on eBay new! I thought the purpose of downloadable content was to make things easier and cheaper. The only reason I would consider getting this version would be if the added GamerScore points to the game or something. Right now I would only pay $5 to download the original untouched.

The lineup for the launch games hasn’t been OFFICIALLY announced, but third party sources have stated the following is what we can expect to see first…

  • Halo

  • Fable
  • Indigo Prophecy
  • Crimson Skies
  • Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex
  • Burnout 3

Seeing this kind of service being used more is a big step farther into a purely digital age, but Microsoft needs to fix the price issue before seeing any major sales with a Halo re-release. $15 is a bit much for something almost everyone who has an Xbox owns already.
