Love Your Plasma? Don’t Go Down Under!

The world today loves their High Def TVs and they like them big and bad. Needless to say these 61 inch Plasmas are sucking electricity and yes straining resources and potentially contributing to some form of global doom. But ready whats the world when you can watch Transformers like it was meant to be watched?

Well, Australia cares about the world, and is working to ban plasmas. Yep, they want to see the world be here for our great grandkids. This is no surprise coming from the country that banned incandescent light bulbs, so this new sanction comes thanks to a revised energy plan that will take effect in 2011.

While this sucks for Aussies, it may benefit all of us in time. If enough Aussies complain about the lack of plasmas (and high end LCDs) companies may put more work into truly creating energy effective TVs. Who doesn’t want to save some money (well in the long run because they will be a hell of a lot more expensive). We’ll see what will happen, but don’t expect this to be the last we hear of this ban. Expect the tech junkies to come out of the caves and artificial glow and say something.

I’ll keep an eye on the news from down under, but with the pace that technology moves ,and the threat of a country lost, I’m betting we’ll see something happen. Or the aussies will pressure government before anything can happen. Either way this story isn’t done.
