Best Buy selling Mac minis

What? We can get Apple products at the local Best Buy store? It would appear so! This report from Ars states that Best Buy has formed an active relationship with the computer company and is offering Mac minis as a result of this.

Apple has long had an on-again, off-again relationship with consumer electronics retailer Best Buy when it comes to Macintosh computers. If you have shopped in a Best Buy over the past couple of days, you may have seen some diminutive Mac Mini desktops on the shelves. Today, Apple confirmed that the US$499 Mini will be sold nationwide at the big box retailer.

The relationship between the two companies is long and sordid. Nearly a decade ago, you could walk into a Best Buy and pick out a Performa (ugh). However, the Mac section was often in disrepair, and Apple’s product line gradually disappeared from the Best Buy’s shelves. That changed in 1998 with the launch of the iMac. Again, relations between the two soured apparently over Apple’s insistence that Best Buy order equal numbers of all five colors of the product line.
