Sony revealed that the upcoming batch of PSP movies will be priced at $19.99USD. The Japanese entertainment giant also announced that they will be releasing The House of Flying Daggers for $28.95USD. The first UMD movie releases will be: xXx, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Hellboy and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. The UMD movies will be available on April 19. Sony will be bundling Spider-Man 2 as a free disc with the first million PSP Value Packs sold in North America.
What do I think of the UMD movie pricing scheme? I think it’s sad that we’ll have to pay as much, or even more, for a portable movie than what we would be paying for a DVD release. I was expecting the movies to be priced between $10 to $15 a piece. And why would I want to pay more for something I can only watch on the PSP? I wonder if Sony will be releasing a UMD player, or add a UMD player to future home devices, such as televisions and DVD players? Oh well, I guess that means I’ll be sticking to DVDs.
