I received this letter today in connection with a news item I reported on [Ekush OS, an alternative to MS Windows?]. Apparently, in the tradition of CherryOS, things are not always what they seem –
NAME: Gé van Geldorp
URL: http://www.reactos.comEarlier today they released a binary on their website (website is currently down). It was easy to determine that this was mostly a copy of ReactOS (http://www.reactos.com), some of the .DLLs still had the string “ReactOS” in it.
Now, although I’m one of the ReactOS developers, I wouldn’t run out and buy a copy of ReactOS (if it were for sale) either, but at least we acknowledge the projects (like Wine and FreeType) who’s code we use and ofcourse our source is available for download too since we distribute under the GPL. Not so for Ekush, which means that Ekush is violating our copyrights.
I assured Mr. Gedorp that we weren’t promoting Ekush, but simply reporting a news item. I also offered to post any further developments.
We’ll see!
