Tina Gasperson’s latest linux.com report discusses an application service provider’s move from Sun Solaris systems to Linux. In the process, they discovered they were able to consolidate their software onto a smaller number of servers and still see a great performance increase at less cost.
This is another case of Linux really shining on the server side. While there is still plenty to do in getting Linux ready for the (average home user) desktop, it’s kicked down the doors for many business arenas that I wonder if even Linus Torvalds and the rest of the design team foresaw.
Not too shabby for a homebrew OS project.
