Another manufacturer has released a Wi-Fi compatible phone, this time the more popular Motorola. The set launch date is sometime in 2005, with a carrier that has yet to be named, but the likely candidates (AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, etc.) will probably support the device.
WiFi phones have, thus far, been met by some resistance by the carriers because of lack of control while the phone is on a Wi-Fi network. Some of these issues have been resolved, and others will likely be sorted out in the near future.
Whatever the case, there are going to be a number of choices when you or I decide to make the leap.
