The end of my trip is in sight for the first time. While still a few days away, the hard work is completed, and we’re down to night work – calibrating this 8000 lb chunk of metal and looking at the stars. In other words, the fun stuff is starting.
We got enough sky last night to realize that we still needed some calibration. That’s ok. This is the fun part of the work. Standing underneath a cloudless sky, with the darkest dark imaginable, looking at galaxies, feeling every ounce of my frail and very small humanity. That’s not a bad thing, either.
You’ll bear with me today, I hope. The report is short as work is calling. I’ll let you know how things went tomorrow.
