Pine is a text-based email program that installs by default on most Linux systems. If you’re used to Outlook, Outlook Express or even Netscape Mail, Pine will admittedly strike you as very minimal. In my book, that’s the beauty of Pine. It has, in the words of one Penguin Shell reader, ” … everything I need and nothing I don’t …” Version 4.43 supports embedded links, a rich address book, and configurability to the nth degree. Even if you’re currently using Evolution or another graphical email manager in Linux, it’s worth your while to at least give Pine a try. With some use, you’ll come to appreciate how less can, in fact, be more.
