Ever thought of a slogan or image you would want on a piece of clothing? Well quite a few sites have picked up on the idea and allow you to customize your own clothes. T-shirts, hoodies, hats, and even bags and purses are customizable through sites like Cafepress. Cafepress allows you to create your own clothing using your own designs and sell them for Cafecash. Cafecash allows you to order clothes from other shopkeepers. Now you may not be able to make money directly for selling your clothes, but at least you could buy the clothes you like. Give it a shot if you’re handy at Photoshop or GIMP, or if you have a scanner draw up something and create some clothes. It’s a great start for entrepreneurs looking to get into clothing design. Check it out, I did, and it’s kinda fun.

Here’s a sample shop called Radiohead Clothing

Have a good one,

The other day I stumbled on a site that creates radio stations for you based on the artists you search. Signing up for a free account allows you to make as many stations as you want for no charge. For people who love to find new music, this site may be the key. By searching a certain artist, Pandora will go through its library and find similar tracks and artists. After searching your artists you control your station and what it plays based on a rating system. Thumbs up the song if you like it or, thumbs down if you don’t want to hear it again. Hear a song to often? Tell Pandora and they won’t play that song for a month. I personally have enjoyed using it, and have found a few new artists I like. Give it a go, I bet you like it.

I used to do computer maintenance and clean up every week or so, but lately I haven’t really kept on top of it. Today I had some time so I went through my computer, cleaned up some old stuff, got rid of some apps I don’t use, and updated the ones I do. After that I did my disk defragment, and did some optimization using Tune Up Utilities. My question to the readers is, How often do you clean up your computers, and what programs do you use? Another question I have, Does anyone know if there is a similar program to Tidy Up for windows?

Have a good one,

Lately I have been dealing with sound card trouble. It seems my integrated sound card is no longer working. I honestly didn’t think it would be that big of a deal, but I always listen to music. Working in silence just wasn’t cutting it for me. Luckily, a buddy of mine had an extra card. Its an old Creative Sound Blaster Live card, but it supports 5.1 surround. Now I am in the market for some decent speakers that won’t break the bank. Any recommendations? I don’t need anything real fancy. Comments are always welcome.

After shutting down countless sites that allow users to watch movies and tv shows, NBC Universal and News Corp. started Hulu. Hulu is a site that once again, allows users to watch tv shows and movies. They made deals with quite a few big tv names, allowing us to watch a lot of well known, hit shows. The Simpson’s, SNL, you name it, you can watch it. I watched a few shows last night and enjoyed the site. It gives people a chance to see the episodes they missed, or maybe find something new to watch. You can sign up for a free membership which allows you to queue shows to your playlist, that way you don’t have to search for the show and remember what episode you wanted. This is a great free service. Like I said if you missed an episode, or are looking for that show you missed a few years ago, try Hulu.

I’ve seen a few lists of recommended programs around, so I figured I would give a list of programs I like. All but one of them are free. I’m sure there is a similar program that is free somewhere.

I will start with Tune Up Utilities. This is a great program to keep your system running smoothly. Not only does it allow you to customize your windows interface, it also repairs your computer. This program contains a Registry Cleaner, Disc Doctor, which is basically the same as the “CHKDSK” command, a Memory Optimizer, a Registry Defrag, System Optimization, which allows you to optimize the way your system runs as well as surfing the web. Rather then doing each task one at a time they developed “1 – Click Maintenance”, which runs all the needed tests fairly quickly. For any application you are having trouble getting rid of, it has a Uninstaller that usually wipes it out with no problem. There is a free 30 day trial, so I recommend giving it a shot. The program cost around $40 to keep.

On to Ccleaner. This will clean up cookies, and temporary files left behind by surfing the internet. A very fast scanning process, (usually no less then a few seconds) will erase temporary files, history, cookies, and clean up the hard drive. This program is completley free, and updated frequently.

Spyware is a problem for just about every Windows user. Spybot Search and Destroy is a free anti-spyware program that does a great job at removing spyware. Updated almost everyday this program is capable of scanning for over 100,000 spyware in about a half an hour to 45 minutes. This also has an immunization application that blocks spyware from being downloaded by your browsers.

Cant afford Microsoft Office? Take a look at Open Office. It is an open source suite of applications that are capable of reading Office files so you can swap the files back and forth. For example, if you are working on something on Microsoft Office at a work or school, you can send it home and continue working on Open Office. This is great for the college student who can’t afford Microsoft Office.

I have used many other freeware applications, so any questions feel free to comment or message, and I will help you to the best of my ability.

I woke up to an Apple Software Update. I didn’t think much of it until I realized it was an update for Safari. Running Windows XP, I figured it was a mistake, but I downloaded it anyway. Turns out they really did release it for Windows. After downloading it, I went and opened it. I have only used a Mac a few times, but every time I do I like it more and more. To me it doesn’t look like they changed a whole lot compared to the Mac version.

The thing I like about Apple programs and products is the simplicity of things. They don’t fill up the interface with to many buttons, and its never to colorful. They usually stick to grey, black, blue and white, which is nice and easy on the eyes. I started browsing to my usual sites, checked my email, and just got familiar with Safari. The loading times are quick, and I haven’t had any trouble going to sites.

Hopefully Microsoft and Apple, or OSX and Windows, if you will, will keep sharing programs. This gives people the chance to get the best of both worlds. As much as I would like a Mac, I just can’t afford one at this point, but with the application sharing it gives people like me a chance to be a bit more familiar, so when the time comes and I do get a mac, it will be one less thing to learn.

Thanks to fellow LG blogger sscott721 (hope he doesn’t mind a linkback), I found FriendFeed. FriendFeed allows a person to watch many sites such as Youtube, blogs, Flickr, Twitter, Digg, and various other sites through one account. You sign up for an account and then migrate all your other accounts over. When thinking about it, I thought it would be a big messy interface, but to my surprise, its actually a very clean, nice interface. I’m not quite done setting it up yet, but so far it has been really easy migrating all my accounts over. All you have to put in is your nickname or login information, and it does the rest for you. This is a great site, and I will continue to use it. So hopefully I can introduce someone to FriendFeed and help it grow. Spread the word.

Polymer Vision, a company based in the Netherlands is developing a new way to carry an e-book, text messages, emails, and other text based things. Rather then it being a cell phone or portable pc, it will be a foldable screen. Unfolded the screen will be around 5 inches, and somehow it will fold into a pocket size media device. Using E-ink it will display its text. A thinner version of the ink was made to keep things going smoothly with this new device. This new device goes by the name of “Readius”. Polymer will try to release the Readius this summer.

VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
