So, what is newsworthy nowadays?

On Friday afternoon, at juist before four o’clock on November 9th, 2007 at Morristown, Tennessee’s Moore-Murrell Municipal airport’ Evelyn Bryan Johnson building, home to Morristown Air Service, a horrible accident happened. A helicopter pilot was decapitated by the rotors of his own helicopter. The pilot, Harold E. “Gene” Jones from West Virginia, and his two passengers landed at the airport to get some fuel for their Bell 407 Helicopter. According to wsaz.com, “Jones had been employed by the Logan & Kanawha Coal Company since July, 1982, according to the release. He was an accomplished pilot, having served as both a military and private pilot.” According to witnesses, Apparantly, Mr. Jones was heading back out to the helicopter, and was hit about eye level with the rotors, decapitating him.

This is a horrific accident, and you would figure that the national news corperations would be all over this. Sadly, around twenty-one hours later, the only news orginations to cover this story are the ones in the local area of Morristown, Tennesse. The Citizen Tribune (http://www.citizentribune.com) the local news paper to Morristown Tennessee and surrounding areas as well as the Knoxville News Senital (http://www.Knoxnews.com), Knoxville Tennessee television stations, WVLT, WATE TV 6, and WBIR have had stories on this. the only non local station to have anything on this was http://www.wsaz.com out of West Virginia.

Where the hell are Cnn, MSNBC, and Fox News? What are they covering.. OJ Freaking Simpson, The war overseas, and the fact than author Normal Mailer died. Ok, I will give them that the Mailer death is sad, but what about a 65 year old pilot that died in a horrible accident. I mean when there are car chased in California, they break live converage to go there, when a plane makes an emergency landing they cut live there, a presidential candidate does something stupid, or when Paris, Britney, Lindsey, or any of the other celebrity trash does something they are all over that like flies on garbage. The “Major” news media in this country is truly pathetic at best.

Greendot? More Like Scamdot.

I recently purchased a rechargeable gift card at a local CVS from a company called “Greendot”. I mean, with this card, you can recharge it when you are out, and use it like a credit card. Good idea, on paper.

First, it is almost a ten dollar free to get the card, as opposed to a five dollar one for a regular credit card gift card. That’s Ok, I can see that. However, when you activate the card, you must wait for the company to send the actual plastic card to you before you can use it on paypal. To use a card, you must have the card verification number. Nowhere was this given to me on the online information. I even went as far to call their support number to see if I could get it. The woman who I spoke to, of course she could not speak very good english, told me that my card verification number showed up on the screen when I activated, but went away after a minute. Now, that is complete garbage. The card verification number was not there, nor could she give me the information. With her attitude toward me on the phone, tend to make me get the same attitude back toward her. I told her, “Thank you. I am so glad I spent nearly one hundred dollars for something that I can’t use right now when I needed to.” She started to say something else, but I just closed the cell phone, and then decided to blog about the crap. I swear, I’d rather put up with the crappy support from Comcast over this company’s “support and help” system.

So yeah, if you have the choice in paying more higher priced credit gift card, or get a rechargeable “greendot” credit card, get the gift card. That is, unless you dont need to use it right away.

Time Warner And Comcast Strike A Deal

Anand Ablack from news.com reports:

Time Warner and Comcast on Monday restructured ownership terms for a pair of cable systems jointly owned by both companies.

The companies agreed to merge their joint venture cable systems in Kansas City, Mo., and Texas into one centrally run business for the next two years. Both companies will own 50 percent of the combined cable network, and Time Warner Cable will continue to run the business’ daily operations.

OK, I know adelphia.net was bought by both, so does this mean that some of the comcast subscribers who were moved from plcaes like adelphia are going to get better internet? One can hope so.

Much of Time Warner’s desires stem from overall growth in the cable sector. Cable companies have maintained a healthy lead in the broadband market over rival technologies such as digital subscriber line access. Cable companies also have begun bundling broadband and voice services into their core video assets.

Time Warner Chief Executive Richard Parsons in recent weeks has said he wants to resolve the media giant’s ownership entanglement with Comcast. Now that issues regarding these joint ventures have been temporarily resolved, Time Warner is expected to try to unravel Comcast’s 21 percent ownership of Time Warner Cable, according to public statements.

I don’t know if this will effect me, as I am not in the states mentioned, but will this cause a shift in all of the cable companies that the two megaconglomerate providers bought. I can only hope so.

My cable modem has been attempting to reboot every day or so, and the bast day or two at about 1 am. Well, most of the time, it needs help rebooting. By that I mean that I have to unplug the power toget it to finally resync. On Halloween, a call to the tech unsupport of comcast met with the traditional, “the error must be on your end.” Thothe first tech I talked to did not deny the “traffic shaping” from BT traffic, as I clearly stated to them, at times I watch liuve tech streams on ustream.tv. I also went to ask if I had been flagged for anything, since I am sending a lot of data that way.The 2nd tech went as far as to read my modem for the past seven days just to see. Then I got a really strange answer.. One that perplxed me as much as my answer did him.

Comcast tech: I show your modem off yesterday, October 30th from just after midnight till about midnight this morning.

me: Uh, it went down for a bit at about 1:11 am. Tho I was on it last night.

tech: You sure?

me: Yes, as I was on mIRC and watching Chris Pirillo and wirelesspacket on ustream.

tech: weird.

Yeah.. My modem shows off while I am on.. I think comcast has their router stuck up their ASDN line.

BTW, on a side note, and stemming from the “fake blood recipe” from yesterday, I am again doing tech work for theatre. I got called by the head of the Water’s State Community College Drama Department, Mr. Jerry Maloy about doing light for “Shenandoah”. Not bad, as I love it.. It’s just this is the last rehersal for th show, and the student who was operating the light board flaked on them at the last minute. Lighting designer, and Encore Theatrical Comany Artistic Director, Micah-Shane Brewer will be there tonight to show me where the tricky parts of the show happen. I mean, as long as I dont hit the button marked GO at the wrong point and go into a blackout too fast or anything.
