Ordered New Mobo and RAM

  • No Related Post

Cerebrus, my main productivity machine, has been freezing at random once or so a day lately. J had a similar issue with his (identical) Asus motherboard, so I guess I’m just kinda hoping the fault lies in the motherboard. So I’m buying a new one.

The EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 should do the trick. Its LGA775 socket will fit my existing Pentium D 3GHz Dual-Core CPU. The RAM would probably be fine, but I’m replacing it as well; with 2GB of Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 SDRAM. I know DDR3 is out, but the mobo doesn’t support it. I suppose PC2-6400 will have to suffice for now :) Plus, the memory I have right now sucks; and I only have one lousy gig. Let’s face it, I run too much stuff simultaneously to fit it all into that much.

My plans are to replace two of my existing video cards with ATI Radeons X1650; one x16 model and one x1 model, in hopes that all three cards being on the same driver will add stability and performance, while psyching me up for Vista SP1. I don’t like Vista so far, but I promised Microsoft I’d try it again when they release a Service pack.
