The Vote 2008

There are many interesting things effecting the election this year.

It seems that many Americans plan to vote a Democrat into the White House out of simple disgust for the Republican Bush Administration. Americans want a change and view this as an easy way to bring upon that desired change. However, many people do not seem to realize that one of the main problems in politics and government is the existence of career politicians and their affiliates (aka lobbyists).

Of the current Presidential nominees, many of them lack some of the experiences that have been ’somewhat unspoken’ prerequisites for the Presidents of past. There has been much debate over the applicable experience towards a Presidency of the Democratic parties’ front runners, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Although, experience does not seem to be as much of an issue as the desire for a radical change.

It truly is the duty of United States citizens to take whatever time necessary to be more educated on the previous voting records, views, and previous actions of these Presidential nominees in order to make a good decision as to who would be best suited for this job. Simply, to elect a woman, a minority, or a war veteran based upon those respected & such stated descriptions, is not making a good informed decision. The decision to vote for one of them should be supported by evidence, solely from each one’s career track records.

America as a whole needs to understand some key aspects of government that affect the quality of life of the citizens as well as national security. There are many factors affecting the quality of life of the people. Through the increase of inflation, the Federal Reserve drives up the costs of everything purchased. This, in turn, allows corporations to charge more for their product or service. However, typically, most corporations do not tend to pass along proportionate increases to their employees wages at the same rate in which their cost of living is already increasing. Additionally, employees (citizens) are subject to an endless list of taxes to be imposed upon everything from their direct wages, investments and all purchased products.

A citizen must ask the puzzling question, why aren’t all politicians considering these main factors affecting the lives of the majority of the U.S. population. Is it, that some politicians do not stand to gain somehow, on the overall improved well being of the general population? Could this be a motivating factor for the institution of electronic voting? Programmers of the voting software readily admitted that the possibility for fraud is possible and exists. Certainly, this technology was intended to give Americans with increasingly busy schedules the convenience in voting they seek. However, is convenience worth the fraud potential in such an important decision that defines the United States as a democracy? Should proud Americans behave so irrationally, lazy, and self-absorbed?
