Shootings in Mumbai

Earlier this week marked one of the worst spites of Terrorism the world has seen. It has affected people from all walks of the globe, including four Australians, shot dead by terrorists. Among them, another 125 plus men and women were taken from their families and friends.

The picture here shows a seemingly stereotypical western man being saved by an Indian policeman. This is quite a site, as the Islamic Terrorist group taking responsibility, Deccan Mujahdin, are mainly targeting Western-descent people.

Australia’s Acting Foreign Minister, Simon Crean, has explained that getting in contact with citizens can be problematic in the current time. “It’s not an easy thing, even if you have the number. You’ve got to get an assessment of what the state of play is within”

This attack on India, and its relations with the rest of the world, could not have come at a worse time. India maintained an exponentially high growth rate until the current financial crisis, and its ties with the West are essential in recovering the country’s economic status. It also shows how fragile the world is at this time. I am not provoking Terrorism, but if an attack was to happen in the United States, even at a hundredth of a fraction to that of September 11, 2001, it would infer tsunami-like waves through stocks, and confidence of any major recovery from the recession we are in.
