For someone like me this seems harsh.  I am by my nature a g-rated person, so being accused of bad langauge is obsurd to me.  My thoughts was that there was “69″ in the URL I posted so the bot figured I was being sexually preverse.  So when I said it must be that tinyurl I didn’t think I would get the boot since i didn’t create a URL with it just the name of the company.  Nothing clickable there and BOOM over 10min ban. After 10 minutes and discussing what happened with one of the ops, I understand that tinyurl has been used to hide unwanted websites.

I wouldn’t have even thought of using tinyurl but Chris twittered about three times with a tinyurl in his twitters today so I figured they were ok.

What can I do, accept say sorry, and maybe offer services to fix the obvious error that calls “tinyurl” foul language.  That is confusing to anyone who gets the boot for it.  If I am Perm banned because of this, it was nice meeting all of you people.  To bad it had to go like this.

I do feel strongly that the ban will be lifted as it was clearly not an attempt to break the spirit of the law.

Humbly submitted and Until the next time,

Thirteen

TinyURL is banned in the chat at Chris’ request. Chris doesn’t convert URLs to TinyURL in Twitter. Twitter does that automatically with any long URL.

TinyURL bans are removed rather quickly.

Bans only become permanent if you are banned multiple times and received many warnings from an Op that were ignored.

Although I can understand the sys ops/moderators not wishing to allow tinyurl in the forum, I do believe that they could have defined better why you were banned, rather than expect everyone to know the rules.

I’ve contested numerous so-called ‘Violations of Terms of Service’ against Yahoo! Answers for precisely the same reason that I’ve just cited … without success, I hasten to add. Sadly, it’s just got my back up, and I tend to refer now to the moderators as total w*nkers, which I don’t suppose does me any favours.

Best of luck to you in the ‘hearing’.

its funny.

If you post a 3 line link, they’ll warn you not to post such long links. But if you post a tinyurl to prevent that, its also a warning.

That Wyldryde for you. rules conflict with each other, and you get punished with second thought or remorse.

i’ve been banned and lost voice plenty of times. my favorite is when Ponzi was streaming on her own account, so i posted the link in the room. Kicked for spamming chris’ wife’s stream. Because that makes sense.

Thats rather ironic, since tinyurl (or whatever variation has been fashionable) used to be almost required in #chris due to the exceptionally long urls that Ustream.tv, and other places provided to gain access to their site. And, as you say, the man himself shows a fondness for the service on a regular basis. I had never heard of tinyurl or other such services until I joined the community and much ranting and raving was done about its virtues to keep long addresses at bay. Seems as though they are trying to kill the messenger (service) because it is easier than moderating the individuals themselves. The only trouble is, that with so many new members all of the time, if you are not aware of the rule, you will end up as an acceptable loss casualty to the convenience.

Thanks for the comments. Just to let you all know, I am back in the channel after being banned for a period. It may have been a 30 min ban or something like that, I don’t know as I went to bed after making this blog entry. You can bet I won’t say tinyurl anymore. :)
