GT240, Not A Car, Apparently the nVidia Model We’ll Be Seeing Everywhere

Many stories have been speaking of the problems with the supply of new processors that both AMD and nVidia are having lately. Unfortunately for nVidia, while AMD shows off a few DX 11 cards, nVidia is limping along with DX 10.1 offerings, which are not at the top of their current lineup.

EVGA, MSI, Palit, and XFX are all showing a few different designs based on the GT240, and only the GT240. This seems to be the chip that will be powering the bulk of offerings from nVidia for the next couple of months.

The different makers are doing their best to make their design pop, and make the user buy from them. This includes different types and amounts of memory, and of course, cooler designs. Zotac, another OEM for nVidia, is showing a passively cooled GT240 (what else!) which should be a good bet for the HTPC crowd.

While there will certainly be other models available for the next couple of months, the only chip you are assured of a good supply of will be the GT240, though there are many toppings on the basic flavor.
