Microsoft Holding ‘Screw Google’ Meetings in Washington?

Washington, D.C., that is. As in the meetings where lobbyists try to get their agendas insinuated into the mainstream. It is reported as true by an article in slashdot.

My first thought, without having to read any further, was “Of course, they are. Why would they not be? It is part of their corporate methodology.” Why use your own resources, when you can make use of the government to achieve your goals, without leaving your own fingerprints in the process?

The one thing I really find interesting about this is that the ‘siege mentality’ that everyone credited to Bill Gates, was either transferred at his stepping back from day to day affairs, or else he was not the progenitor of it.

Microsoft’s chief Washington lobbyist has been convening regular meetings, attended by the company’s outside consultants, that have become known by some beltway insiders as ’screw Google’ meetings, DailyFinance has learned. The meetings are part of an ongoing campaign by Microsoft, other Google opponents, and hired third parties to discredit the Web search leader, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter. ‘Microsoft is at the center of a group of companies who see Google as a threat to them in some combination of business and policy,’ said a source who requested anonymity to avoid retribution. ‘The effort is designed to make Google look like the big high-tech bad guy here’.

As another article at AllThingsD pointed out, it has simply become the way things are done these days, and no doubt there are meetings held in the hallowed halls of Googledom, where “Screw Microsoft, every day, in every way” is the chorus being led. I tend to wonder about this, as there has been no direct evidence of it, whereas we have seen much evidence coming from Redmond, over the years.
