Those of use who follow this knew it could not be long. Opera 10 betas kept removing any little problems left in the initial shakedown of the product. Now, for those who can’t wait, or are having perhaps a last little bit of trouble with one of the betas, the Release Candidate is available, to be followed by the gold code on the 1st of September.
This dos not include the Unite code, as it is a bit less polished, but very usable. If you want it, it can be downloaded as the 10.10 beta, showing what will become Opera 10.1, from the Opera website.

After months of playing around with snapshots fans of the Opera browser can finally run the RC (Release Candidate) of Opera 10 as they wait a few more days until the final release. As you’d expect, the Opera 10 RC is feature complete and, compared to version 9.6 it brings a new look, Opera Turbo, resizable, thumbnail tabs, an inline spell-checker, auto-update, an improved Speed Dial, automated crash reporting, and, the Presto 2.2 engine which is supposed to be up to 40% faster than its predecessor.
“The release candidate pushes us closer to the final launch of Opera 10,” said Jan Standal, Vice President of Desktop Products, Opera. “We paid special attention to the mail client, which is one of our most enduring and popular features. Now, we are very close to releasing the best browser in Opera’s long history. We hope everyone who has helped us test our browser thus far will put the release candidate through its paces. With everyone’s help, Opera 10 will surprise a lot of people with its speed, stability and powerful features.”
Resizable thumb tabs has already been copied by Mozilla, I hear the inline spell check is coming in Chrome, it’s only a matter of time before someone offers an equivalent to Turbo. Perhaps the users who appreciate these features should try their implementation on the originator of them.
Opera is an amazing browser, very customizable without the bloat of Firefox after adding the third party features, not quite a fast as Chrome or Iron, but so very much more usable, and moldable to everyday use.
Release Candidate found here, in the usual place.
