The executives at Toshiba must really be feeling good today. With profits coming in from the China Blue High Definition production, helping to defray  the extreme losses of the world-wide HD-DVD launch, costing Toshiba an estimated one billion dollars, it can look forward now to some profits from upcoming production of Blu-ray players.

Yes, Toshiba has gone over, and will be manufacturing  the high-priced spread.

The rumors about Toshiba’s newfound (forced) love for Blu-Ray are officially true as Toshiba has confirmed it has applied to become a member of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) and wants to release products that support the high-def format. The Japanese company names the recent growth in digital devices supporting the Blu-ray format, combined with market demand from consumers and retailers alike, for its decision to go ‘Blu’.

Although not providing specifics, Toshiba has revealed that it will start releasing Blu-Ray players and notebooks equipped with Blu-Ray drives by the end of this year. Finally.

Toshiba makes great products, usually less expensive than Sony or Panasonic counterparts. This will make another quality choice for those not born with, or having acquired, a silver spoon in their mouth.
