Gates States Windows Will Get Gesture Control

Bill Gates, not completely absent from the Windowsphere, has stated that soon, the Windows operating system will soon be able to take advantage of the benefits of the research for Xbox, called Project Natal.

Project Natal is the name Microsoft uses for a “controller-free gaming and entertainment experience” that the company will use in the future to the Xbox 360. But it looks like other divisions in Microsoft might use this platform as well.

Bill Gates said that ““..I think there’s incredible value as we use that in the office connected to a Windows PC. So Microsoft research and the product groups have a lot going on there, because you can use the cost reduction that will take place over the years to say, why shouldn’t that be in most office environments.” He also commented that Project Natal is being commercialized for Windows as well as the Xbox 360.

We don’t know what to expect at the moment, can you imagine Windows OS coming with Natal technology? We could work in front of the computer in the same way Tom Cruise did in “Minority Report”. Our finger will work as a cursor. What we can only guess at the moment is that that Microsoft will be the first company to design an operating system that works with full motion sensing.

I’m certain this will come, as it is a natural way of doing things. Natural things tend to last, once introduced.

The question now – when will Bill tell Steve to get in line or get out?

I have a particular gesture in mind for Windows…

leftystrat, check out the latest installment. I wonder if your distaste is so much for Windows, or the purveyors of Windows.

Thanks for the comment - I see the readership is growing, but the comments are dwindling, and I can’t think of why.

One of my guys got a netbook with 7, I think. I just can’t get past that UI. Fat and bloated and pretty - exactly the way I can’t stand it. It’s why I use XFCE instead of KDE.

Plus I think people need to register their displeasure with the crap out of Redmond. They don’t do that by purchasing every new product that comes out. I read that a staggering number of enterprise customers have already stated they’re not going to touch 7. A smaller percentage is planning on waiting til SP1 (which I would do if I had any plans of touching 7).

Yet the Big Promo Machine that is the internet has stated that 7 pre-orders are already over Vista sales. What’s funny is that Vista numbers were grossly inflated because if you purchased XP, it was considered a Vista downgrade. I called it an upgrade, but what do I know?

As for comments, might be the season.. I don’t know.
How does one tell readership is up? I’d love to get some stats.
