Banging on Bing, It’s A New Sport
I was looking around on reddit this morning, and chanced upon a site I’ve not seen before, which is, of course, not that abnormal, but what is interesting is that the author has a similar point of view, and I usually find those rather quickly.
A few days back, I gave the reasons why I thought Bing was not a very good place to search for things, but I got little feedback from anyone finding it similarly lacking. I thought perhaps i could be clouding the judgement of the site with search actions that were somehow unusual, and that others might be finding that Bing was working well for their needs. after all, reports from some sites were stating that Bing was actually outpacing Yahoo in usage.
Everyone like to try something new, so I chalked it up to that being the case, and thought little about it – especially after finding that Yahoo was doing better than Google or Bing for the searches i came up with on the spur of that moment.
The site I found has an article, dated June 2nd, called “Why Bing Sucks, Top 5 Reasons”. Rather than ripping up Bing for merely being a product of the semi-warped minds at Microsoft, the author explains that he had given the ‘decision engine’ a testing of several days, and follows with considerable detail for the assessment of the title.
The author gives 3 reasons why one might want to use Bing, and 7 why that person would most likely do better elsewhere, and then there is the update, showing that some very, very simple searches don’t come up with any answers. Ooh, not good at all.
The article is another view from mine, though we essentially reach the same conclusion. The author ends with a small tidbit I did not know, but it is very interesting, and not in a “Wow, Microsoft really chose a good name for their re-named search device” way.
If we Talk about Bing in particular taking over Google, that would be a fair joke from Microsoft. They don’t have the skill and innovation to catch up to Google. Even if they do, their capacity, processing & speed will never mach that of Google.
Bing in Chinese language means “Disease”, truly a Brand Infection! Choice is yours.
Take a look, it is an interesting read, and gives more credence to the idea that Microsoft is truly wasting its time on such things as a search engine – though, I must add, the idea of using the phrase, decision engine, was truly brilliant. I’m betting it came right from Mr. Gates. He is a consummate salesman.
