Watching the CBS News this evening, I saw a concept that I truly wonder why it has not been implemented before now. Zilok is brilliant!
Zilok is a new concept in marketing, user to user, just like eBay, but with a little help, exactly like eBay. The difference is that no one sells anything, they rent it!
The idea is fairly simple. Put things to work that are not being used. One item mentioned was an electric drill, which they cited as being used a grand total of 12 minutes during its lifetime – apparently there are a lot of do-it-yourselfers that get tired quickly of doing it themselves.
So the owner of the electric drill can contact Zilok, and arrange to rent the drill for a rate determined by the two parties.
Apparently the things rentable through Zilok is only limited by your imagination (so in that regard, it’s somewhat like craigslist [g]).
The site got such a huge pounding right after the news this evening, it is not operating right now, but they have a signup sheet to get you started.

Totally agree with “brilliant”. There are several similar sites who have been doing it longer, like erento.com and some newer ones doing it better, like http://www.toolzdo.com. Check them out. You can see them all from this techcrunch search for zilok:
