How to Learn From Our President

As someone who voted for the current President, I see many things about him to admire. I am barely old enough to remember John F. Kennedy, and I know more of him through reading and a few videos than any direct experience.
One thing that President Obama has in common with JFK is that the skills of master orator are easily seen. The difference, and one that many find a bit more engaging with the current President, is the way in which he uses precise, yet simple grammatical structures, no long subordinate clauses, no words that might confer a precise meaning, yet for the majority might require a trip to the dictionary. He very much also speaks in the vernacular of today. He is current in the idioms of today, and comfortable speaking to all levels of society. I’m not sure JFK would have been so at ease with urban youth, as it was, except for possible interaction with others in the military, foreign as Esperanto to him.
An article on BNet gives tips on how to fashion your own speaking behavior on the methods that President Obama uses, and is a quick and interesting read. Much can be learned from it, and from him.

He is the lesser of two evils, between himself and and John McCain. Our only hope for salvation rests with Ralph Nader.
