Windows 7 – Gold - As Early as July?

Yes, the writing was on the wall as soon as it was announced that free upgrades would be given to those buying computers with pre-installed Vista, after July 1. You just know Microsoft bean counters were cringing when that announcement was made!
Also, an article in Reuters, from Friday, the 24th, states that the CFO of Microsoft stated that Microsoft could release Windows 7 as early as July.
I’d say that if you can find a line on it in Vegas, bet the farm, as there is no way that Microsoft is going to tell it’s stockholders that revenue is down 30%, and then, in the same week, decide to string out the release of Windows 7 – no matter how ragged it still might be.
Now most using it might say it is not ragged, but if they could put the enthusiasm filter on for just a moment, is it really true? Will Windows 7 be hampered by an early life of almost daily updates? What about the reported ‘un-repairable flaw’ that allows a rootkit to take over the system? (also here)
Everyone knows that the modus operandi of Microsoft is to release things before they have congealed, followed by free flowing updates, to repair all the niggling (and some not so) problems left in the release.
With Microsoft stock in the toilet, it might be the very best time to take a carefully observing stance, waiting for the other shoe to drop, and the cobblers to get things repaired.

I have built my own systems for the better part of twenty years. I decided at Christmas to actually BUY a computer rather than piece it together as I’ve always done because the price for what I got was just to good to pass up. I love my new computer, but of course I did have to upgrade the video card and PSU right away to my liking.
The reason I bring this up is because I was really hoping that Microsoft would be a little more generous in their pre Windows 7 timeframe for free upgrades to the next OS. I have been putting off buying a new laptop until Summer because I want to be eligible for the upgrade on at least one of my computers.
Personally, all things considered I feel Windows 7 will be ready for prime time if they decide to release it earlier than the fall. Microsoft has to deal with thousands, even millions of possible system configurations when you take the amount of existing software and hardware into consideration it’s staggering, and to think that they will ever be able to escape a lot of updates and fixes early on is wishful thinking. Windows 7 should be much smoother now that a lot of the initial dust after Vista SP1 has settled. XP to Vista was a culture shock for many due to so many changes in the Kernal structure and hardware requirements. Vista to Windows 7 I see…IMO….as a more peaceful passing of the torch. :)

No matter how ragged it still might be.
So far the beta was fine. RC will be great.
So I don’t think it will be ragged.
Feel too much like vista but it will be better.

patapouf, those who don’t claim problems are many, but the problems i have experienced are replicated by others I’ve come in contact with.
I therefore conclude that, like the purposeful ‘leaking’ of all the different builds of Windows 7, there might also be a similarly inspired under reporting of problems. Microsoft wields a lot of influence, and money.
