Shafted Again: Climate Change Study Gives No Hope

A new study proclaims that, over the long term, we’re already beyond the tipping point that Al Gore and others have warned about.
The study states that climates will change, sea levels will rise, and not one thing can be done for the trend. By the way, the trend is slated to continue for the next thousand years, assuming that the human race is on the planet that long.
Greenhouse gas emissions have permanently moved the climate in a direction that will not be changed, even by the most fervent efforts, for a good, long time. If any lesson is to be taken from this, it is that we are past the time of letting those who believe that scientists are wrong, or that man cannot possibly change something as huge as the Earth, control things.

The question for me is “Does it take the entire world looking like a scene from the movie ‘Bladerunner’ for these people to see that change is needed?”

This is bad news mainly because of the possibility that no one will give a damn about the environment any more. People may give up on trying to “save the world” once learning that their efforts may be useless.

mdscinto, no, now it becomes a matter of degree. We should do everything possible to ameliorate the effects that are thrust upon us, and remember that (hopefully) our progeny will inherit the Earth we pass down.
Thanks for the comment.

The attitude of crisis management creates the crisis in the first place.
But!!
If you look at the scale of things you will see that a volcanic eruption on land pushes more greenhouse gasses into the upper stratosphere in a few seconds than humans have ever produced.
There are more than a hundred active volcanoes on land and many unknown on the ocean floor.
The heating of the sea by the undersea vents far out strips anything humans have done.
Of course adding to the problem is totally irresponsible and for which the human race, the top predictor who is turning everything into human protien will have to pay the price!

Tony, I have seen claims similar to yours before, however, I have yet to actually see the math on this done anywhere.
The largest refutation to what you have pointed out would be the figures showing the average temperatures around the earth, that had been on the way down, slowing that regression, and now moving in a positive direction. All of this change has been since the Industrial Revolution. If only coincidence, it would be a very great one.
