Where’s Movie Maker?

After spending a few more minutes using the newest Live Essentials, and reading about some of the pundits opinions (including the fact that Ed Bott, usually one of the top Microsoft apologists, doesn’t like the progress – or lack thereof, on the help system), I came upon the realization that one of the newest programs, Windows Live Movie maker, is not installed on my machine.

After looking around, I went to the Live site again, and tried to download the application. After closing the browser, and opening the stub file, I see that it correctly states that all the programs are installed except for Family Safety – which is right, as far as it goes. However, there is no choice, or explanation, for why the Movie Maker application, that is shown to be available on the web page, is not an option in the downloader application.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone else here at LG use these applications? I don’t see any conversations about them, which is amazing, because they are fairly well done, and free. (I thought that the user base could not resist a good, free application!)

Anyone else have this problem? I have begun to think it may have something to do with my sticking with XP, but I cannot find anything to corroborate this notion.

The bad news is that Microsoft has decided to not support Windows XP for Windows Live Movie Maker. I do not know whether they plan on adding Vista-only features to Movie Maker (I’m not aware of any Vista-only features in the current beta) or if this is simply a software-check preventing installation on Windows XP.

David, either the page has changed, or I was sloppy in my reading of it, because I don’t recall seeing that when I downloaded - but at the time, I probably was concentrating more on simply getting the upgrade done.

Thanks for the comment, and the pointer.
