Children Never Grow Up

When I was 17, I met my father for the first time (long story, for another day). In the process of getting to know him, I learned a few truisms that he lived by. One of them was that as people get older, the outside changes, but inside, we’re all children, of a sort. Some remain more childish than others.

The group of 20, the group of leaders in the top nations of the world, who control the money (think Bernanke), are getting together this weekend. Prior to the meeting, in a televised gathering, they are already admitting that they saw the train coming off the tracks with the world monetary markets. They were simply too greedy to put a stop to it!

Actually, several of the hedge fund managers, who were also in attendance, protested like petulant children, whose hands have been caught in the cookie jar, saying things like “It’s the governmental regulators’ faults – after all, they should have known that the free market would not automatically right itself.”

With leadership like this, it is amazing we ever took flight in airplanes, much less got 3 men at a time to the moon!

Perhaps we need to force these men to watch the entire 7 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Roddenberry made it clear that what had changed between the Original Series and Next Generation is that the beings of the Federation had decided (consciously) as a whole to live better lives, without avarice and hatred for the others who shared the same space.

What a concept!

Can it be done? We made a start a little over a week ago in this country… it can’t stop there, however.

lol, as far as growing up is concerned, I think I might be a lost cause :P

I’ve been pondering this very thing lately. I will be 30 on my next birthday and wonder if I will ever feel “grown up”? When I was a kid, I always had an idea of what being an adult would be. I got here and it’s nothing like I thought. I am absolutely still a child inside.

It’s way past time to start aggressively throwing more of these greedy scum in prison AND TAKING AWAY THEIR MONEY! That will put more fear in them than anything.

Captain, I think I can be adult when I have to be, but otherwise being childlike is for me!

Thanks for the comment.

Kim, I didn’t feel grown up unil I held my baby boy in my arms- that’s when it sunk in…I was 34.

As long as you can function acceptably in society when necessary, and do the correct things, there is no reason to feel any differently.

Thanks for the comment.

Tim, I believe you’re right, yet on PBS news it was reported that much of that 700 billion is going to pay bonuses to many of the hedge fund managers in the next month. The idea is that if these people don’t get their bonuses, they’ll walk.

I say ‘oh, well’ - they should be glad they have jobs, and make the kind of money they do, for basically adding nothing to the GNP.

And yes, some should pay some back - look what it did for Michael Milken - he saw the light and became a philanthropist!

To me it seems that our culture tells us we are children until the age of 18 or 21 then we are suppose to grow up. Well IMO and the only thing that makes sense to me is that considering people never stop learning because the lessons and knowledge that humans have coming to them are infinite, we never stop growing up. Therefore we are always children and acting like you are grown up is only counterproductive to living life to its fullest and it is only hurting yourself. Sorry for my grammer. :) peace

In addition to that which i forgot. This does not mean taking responsibility it just means dont be something your not and none of us are “grown up”. We are all children of this earth.

need to fix that last comment again lol. Meant to say this does not mean that you shouldnt take responsibility for yourself.

Zach, no problems with the grammar, every one has certain pecadillos.

Thanks for the comment.
