Change My Mind, Give Me New Perspective
One of the things I tend to take pride in is the open minded attitude I have about life. I try to live and let live, knowing that there are many ways to live a life, that my life has been far from perfect, and there is always more than one way to a goal.
So, bearing that in mind, I need someone to explain something I, no matter how I try, cannot understand.
With less than a week to wait before the appointed day, in a year when the differences are so clear between the candidates, why can anyone be ‘undecided’? This is a national election year, which means that there are more than the usual number of choices. These state and local choices demand some attention, and so it would seem that some time has been spent by most who intend to vote (that is every single one who is able I hope!).
Now, this is not to criticize your choice – I don’t care who you are voting for- I am simply trying to be enlightened as to why anyone could still be not sure of how they will vote. The run up to this election has been punctuated with so much drama, I hardly think anyone could say that they haven’t thought about it.
If it is simply a matter of not wishing to comment, I can certainly understand, but I really wish that those who don’t wish to say, would simply say that. People will respect that. It certainly is much more assuring, for those who wonder about intelligence of the people who claim to be undecided. Because certainly, if you truly are undecided at this point, on most of the choices, time should be put aside for serious reflection about the speed and style of one’s thought processes.
So what is it? If you simply don’t wish to say, why not just say that! People will respect you! If you really don’t know, give it some quiet reflection at your earliest opportunity. From the city ballot measures, which often affect us more than anything decided from a distance, to the leader of our nation - It’s so important.

I will add the I don’t believe the pollsters have a check box for “none of your damn business”. They just check “undecided” probably.
I heard some funny commentary the other day about those surveys thet ask “do you think the country is headed in the wrong direction?” Specifically, whose are those other 5% who actually think we’re headed in the RIGHT direction, and that other 5% who can never seem to make up their minds about it. It was some funny stuff.

Some undecided folk are waiting for some major event to influence their vote. Given two candidates where neither is appealing makes them hesitate. Further, they may not vote at all. The constant polling adds to their uncertainty. Finally, poll questions are often misleading.

Cliffystones, not sure about that, as I have never been polled politically – but you may be right. Still, it seems as though the pollsters would have thought of that and included ‘decline to say’ as a choice, for finer granularity.

Chris, my perspective changed just last year, when I realized that Ron Paul did not have a ghost of a chance to be elected, that no one was heeding the message of John Edwards, and then taking real notice of Barack Obama, a figure I had previously liked, but felt did not have a chance due to non-political factors.
I was incorrect then, and I am very happy about it. I was sure that a vote for Obama was the only intelligent choice on election day, and each day that now passes re-confirms that notion.
