One Man vs. Scientology

I used to think that Scientology was one of many ‘religions’ made by men to fleece an unsuspecting public. After reading a piece that appeared last week in the Village Voice, I see I was right, but also wrong.

Scientology has got to be one of the most destructive things ever wrought by man against his fellow man.

The article, written by Tony Ortega, was to have been published 6 years ago, but for reasons explained in the article, was delayed until now. The article delineates a struggle of one man, over 30 years, against the fraud, coercion, and then intimidation from this entity that calls itself a church.

Not wanting to take anything away from the author, I would ask that you read it here, After you read this, you will be amazed, and hopefully forewarned about this dangerous sham.

Current Scientologists are more than welcome to reply, as I think hearing opposing views is good, and if you can add anything to the events of the story, that would be great. Others feel free also – I’m sure that I’m not the only one who is amazed by what I once thought was simply annoying, and finding the danger of it.

I have been watching videos about Scientology the past couple of days and its amazing how much of a fraud this “church” is.

Go to http://www.youtube.com/user/xenutv

and watch the featured video its amazing and shocking.

Scientology is weird and crazy, and dumb.

Matt, George, thanks for the comments. The question we must now ask - ‘What type of personality is ripe for the picking by the recruiters of this ‘church’ ?’

From what I hear they pray on the week minds, people who are depressed or who have simply given up. To me if Scientology makes them feel better then go for it, but its the church and their leaders that are corrupt and reform is needed.

They’re dangerous and this is compounded by huge amounts of money. They throw money at the legal system to harass detractors.

They also use cult tactics in recruiting. Minor league brainwashing.

Q. What’s the definition of `cult’ ?
A. The other guy’s religion.

Of course I think the Catholic church [NOT Catholics] as an organization is pretty dangerous too, but that’s my opinion.

Good topic.

leftystrat, did you see in the article that they bullied the IRS to get tax exempt status? Not only is this ballsy, it shows how far they will go.

The Oracle, the sad thing is that there’s a whole range of personalities which can be suckered in by scientology.

Their tactics include and indeed are designed to find what they call someones “ruin”. Be it a desire to help others, a feeling of loss or incompleteness or just suffering from the day to day worries that all people at some time feel.

That’s the purpose of the “stress test”. No matter how you answer, they will tell you an exaggerated ‘proof reading’ and then tell you how they can “fix” you. And after the talking down they’ve given you and the hypnotic nature of the questioning, they will have you only too willing to believe.

WolfyRik, I understand what you’re saying, but at some point there must be a will to stay greater than the will to leave during those tests.

I suppose we all want to be helped, but then low self esteem is what precedes the idea that one needs help. If that is the case, it would hardly be an easy task to get Hollywood actors that are up and coming - they hav self-esteem to burn

When it comes to young people, I’m not sure what gets them over the built in need to rebel against regimentation - the spiel must be very good

All I know is that I don’t ride my dirt bike anymore because Tom Cruise won’t be there to help my if I crash. As he is the only one that can help.

This is a bunch of whackos, little tommy gets some award and he salutes the “churches” supreme being when he comes up on stage. Sheep robots.

Dear Tom,

I’m just kidding so please don’t put a rattlesnake in my mailbox.
