WTC Bldg 7 Holds Fascination For Britain

Almost seven years after the occurrence, the collapse of the third building of the World Trade Center holds a fascination for the British conspiracy theorists. An article on the BBC News website explains the story being covered as part of a series on BBC 2.

As the story unfolds, it is apparent that some thought has been put forth here – these are not the ravings of those who would become 21st century muckrakers.

It also begs the question, ‘”Why are we so easily pacified by the explanation given?” I don’t subscribe to the theory that our government was behind the downing of the towers, but the lack of a clear explanation for the loss of Building 7 is puzzling.

There are some things that need so much coverage as to remove any possible doubt about the sequence of events and root cause – this is one of those things. Another is the assassination of President Kennedy, but that is for another day. The reason I bring it up is because I was never so disappointed in any reporter as I was when the late Peter Jennings went on television, shortly before his death, and proclaimed that the Warren Commission was correct in its assessments. Clearly, Peter, and President Kennedy, deserve better.  ABC did the country a disservice by dismissing all the counter claims that have never been fully disputed. It took the easy way out, using the time to appeal to a large audience and then hawk its sponsor’s products. If ever there was a need for more examination, these are the top of the heap. (Jimmy Hoffa remains dead, and it’s of little national consequence.)

These are the types of stories that need so much light as to almost blind the reader with unassailable facts – the kind that few stories get today. Some will speak of the more complicated world of today, that makes clear reasons hard to assess. I believe it speaks to a malaise of the press, brought about by the general loss of work ethic in the nation.

from the BBC

This third skyscraper was never hit by an aeroplane. There is little photographic evidence of extensive damage. Yet seven hours after the Twin Towers collapsed, this 47-storey building collapsed in a few seconds.

Afterwards the thousands of tonnes of steel from the building were taken away to be melted down in the Far East. The official explanation is that this third huge tower at the World Trade Center collapsed because of ordinary fires - but that makes this the first and only skyscraper in the world to have collapsed because of fire. Nearly seven years on the final official report on the building has still not been published. The report is now promised this month.

and

It is certainly true that on 9/11 the BBC broadcast that WTC7 had collapsed when it was still standing. Then the satellite transmission seemed to cut out mysteriously when the correspondent was still talking. Then Richard Porter admitted in his blog last year that the BBC had lost those key tapes of BBC World News output from the day.

Very strange – and, at the least it calls for a change in reporting policy – where the smallest fact is double checked before rushing to get the story out. I’m certain that many of these fact checks would yield good results - although not the ones originally intended - many of the efforts would yield non-events. That is good, because the time taken up with the reporting of the same news in multitudinous ways yields similar results to the children’s game of passing a story from one person to another, and having a great laugh when the originator finds the last telling has little resemblance to the story at the start of the line.

The facts were there. The BBC just just jumped the gun on the script :)

New information from NIST shows that there was an expulsion of flame from the 13th floor just prior to the collapse of Building 7. This is evidence of a floor falling and acting like a bellows and expelling fire and smoke just as it did when Tower 1 collapsed.

Long span, steel beam supported floors can fail from the beams expanding and sagging from the heat of a large fire and then contracting after the fire dies down. The force of the contracting long span, steel floor detaches its connection to the columns, and this detachment allows the remaining sagging floor on the other side of the columns to pull the columns out of alignment. When a column deflects from ten to twenty degrees it can no longer support its load and buckles.

With the large floor areas in Building 7, NIST has shown that a column failure would travel immediately up to the roof, failing all the columns above because the design did not allow for redistribution of the loads. This type of failure can put all the long span floors above the column failure into suspension with large lateral forces on the connections. It is my assumption that this tensile force pulled in a line of core columns collapsing the core and thus the entire building.

I do not believe this was done by our Gov’t. That does not mean I trust our Gov’t completely. For sure most Politicians are corrupt and have forgotten that they work for us. We need laws to hold them accountable and keep them honest. I believe they should be held to a higher standard than ordinary Citizens. When they break those laws, they should be executed and their ill gotten property returned as a Tax break to all of us.

“I don’t subscribe to the theory that our government was behind the downing of the towers…”

Me neither. What a far-fetched fantasy.

I much prefer the theory that a bunch of cave dwellers half a world away successfully hijacked four airliners and TOTALLY demolished three skyscrapers with two of those planes, then managed to crash one of the remaining planes into the most secure building on the planet AFTER hitting NYC while our defense, the largest and most well funded in all of human history, sat watching totally helpless. Luckily for us, the fourth plane just crashed all on its own. Who knows how many skyscrapers or secure Gov’t buildings it would have “pancaked” into oblivion.

First hand account of explosions in the basement by someone who actually was there: Mike Hess (New York’s corporation counsel) has come out and blown the whistle on the ridiculous official story.

correction, Barry Jennings accompanied by Mike Hess, reported the explosions, freshly abandoned operation rooms, etc.

Noob, and I detected no sarcasm in your message. Not even a smidgeon.

Thanks for the comment.

kiko, interesting stuff - I wish we could get BBC 2 here, so I could see it.

Thanks for the comment.

Even if thermal expansion/contraction of the steel or another cause could initiate total collapse, this is inadequate to explain two aspects of the collapse: 1) the collapse of WTC 7 took 6.5 seconds vs. 6.0 seconds for an object free-falling the distance of the building’s height. This implies that there was no structural resistance or slowing due to collisions with stationary parts of the building. 2) There were numerous vertical supporting columns that supported the building like legs on a table. They must have all failed simultaneously, otherwise the building would have tipped over and fallen on its side rather than straight down as observed.

Peter Hollings, thanks for the information, and the comment. If people like you keep on this, perhaps the whole story (note I did not say truth) will come out.

The only thing that fell at free fall speed was the outside frame. The building actually took over 13 seconds to collapse. first the penthouse roof was seen collapsing into the building along with windows breaking on the east side oif the north wall. This indicated one or more key interior columns on the east side failing. Five seconds later the west penthouse roof failed indicating complete failure of the core. The entire interior of the building collapsed before the outside frame came down as a unit. One reason the outside frame came down as a unit was the belt truss arround the building at arround the 22 to 24 the floors. This belt truss would have allowed some column failure below while holding the upper building stiff so we cannot say all the columns would have to fail at the same time.

NIST has done some computer studies that show the weak connections on some of the smaller beams would fail first, removing support for some key columns which than failed.
