An Era Of Comedy

  • No Related Post

After watching the new Dana Carvey special on HBO this evening, it is clear that the last 8 years was a golden era of comedy for all comedians.  The Bush administration has provided so much material that it may never be equaled.

As Dana took us into a hilarious bit about a disembodied Ronald Reagan acting as an oracle, charting the political landscape for the 30 years after his presidency, it was hilarious going with him down memory lane – taking jabs at all the presidents to come – and also those who never made it.

Carvey takes mostly political swipes, but manages to mix in some religious humor, extrapolating what might, on the scale of what is considered weird, make a Scientologist sit up and take notice. He also pokes fun at the aging process, his own problems, and journeys through the landscape of non-American doctors.

Although the entire hour was not devoted to the Bush administration, it did provide the largest laughter, and made all who watched realize that politics is definitely more than what runs the country – it keeps the nation laughing.
