Microsoft Decides It’s Time…

to quit a dying business. No, it’s not the one you think.
At the end of July, the Windows Live! Expo, which is an online competitor to Craigslist, will be closing up shop for good. As a matter of fact, it really is simply like an old building right now, empty, with broken out windows, waiting for the wrecking ball, as it can do nothing except spew out the message that it will be closing down at the end of July.
It is mystifying that Microsoft would allow it to stand for so long, doing nothing. After all, if enough effort was made to put up the notice, how much more could it take to pull the plug? (figuratively speaking)
One of the problems with the service, the why it failed part, is that so many have not been aware it existed. I was only vaguely aware, and I use the Live! services every day.
What this says is anyone’s guess. Although it was a small thing to end this, as it was completely contained within the umbrella of Microsoft sites, it does show that this, along with the book transcription project, can have an ignominious end, with Microsoft deciding that no more money will go down the sinkhole.
This could also signal the efforts on these projects being refocused on things that need help, like operating systems and office suites.

Inside Microsoft, the notice we saw about it closing down recommended we start using facebook.com instead.

Well, ‘Al’, Thanks for the comment. Feel free to voice opinions on any other Microsoft related post any time.
It would be refreshing to get a view from a ‘nonspecific person uninvolved with the propaganda machine’.
