Radeon 4850 Seen In The Wild

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes has a picture of a Gigabyte Radeon 4850 over at ZDNet and it looks as though it is going to be a long card, making it hard to install in some machines.
No word on the process used, it does seem that if AMD would convert to a SOI process that it could certainly leap ahead far from the performance plateau they are on now. Everyone would like to see more speed and less heat.
According to the small description given, AMD is putting the kibosh on any vendor specific changes, so at first all cards will be functionally identical. With the sample released, cards should hit the stores very soon.
Is it me, or does this video card innovation cycle seem a little hurried?
