Windows Live Calendar

I’ve been checking on the availability of the Live Calendar application for a few days, as the word has leaked about the release. It seems that Microsoft is playing coy, as the application is appearing for a short time and then disappearing from sight (according to reports).

Several reputable sources have reported that it was to be available yesterday. It might have been, but not when I tried to find it. Now many are grumbling about the lack of availability. I wonder if these people really need heavy duty calendaring support. If not, the calendar located in Live Hotmail (or whatever today’s name is) is pretty serviceable.

I don’t think that a problem exists in not making the app available, as I’d rather see it a little later and with no flaws. You may remember, I’ve applauded the latest efforts of Microsoft with the Live Messenger and Mail products. They are outstanding - enough so that I don’t feel the need to install Outlook on a machine. Now when the Calendar  comes out, it will almost (note - almost) remove the need for Outlook.

The Mail app made me not ponder or mourn the demise of Eudora, and made the languishing of Thunderbird not so very hard to take. (For Linux machines, Evolution is the ticket.) When it comes to mail, I’m not brand loyal, it’s whatever works. As long as I don’t see errors or lost mail, it’s ok with me.

Has anyone seen Live Calendar? (Please share the secret keyboard strokes to get to it if you have…)
