Pakistan - Just Another Place Screwed Up By the U.S.

After reading an article in the New York Times this morning, I can only sympathize with those who throw their support to Ron Paul - at least a far as foreign policy is concerned.
Once again, it is clear that the United States government has backed another petty dictator, no matter what that person calls himself. A long undistinguished line of these choices has occurred. I won’t catalog all the idiots that have been propped up by this nation, simply because they have been ‘easy to work with’ or ‘moldable’, the list is long.
In almost every case, the choice was made by people who knew little, and cared even less, of the situation inside the nation or territory concerned. This is like George Bush, visiting Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other nation, protected by Secret Service, and further protected by many in the visited nation, either because of shame or ulterior motives. The man comes back to the United States with the idea that he knows the state of things where he visited, but knows less than the child looking at a chocolate-dipped ice cream cone, and thinks the entire cone is brown.
This country puts on the face that it knows much of all the world’s countries, simply because a few people that lived there emigrated here.
Now the story continues to say that Condoleeza Rice demanded a quick return to Constitutional law. Imagine the average Pakistani chewing on that one.
Is this not why there is a United Nations? Who does this woman think she is? Oh, yes, she is the mouthpiece for the petty little dictator we have allowed to reign here.

Is Lockergnome really the right place to be venting on your personal view of political events? What the Hell does this rant have to do with computers or tech?

Steve Willson, it doesn’t have one thing to do with either. If you don’t wish to read it, you have my permission to skip it.
If you look at the others who post here, you will notice many have little to do with tech or computers. If you look at the sum of what I write, you’ll see the bulk of it concerns computers.
Have a nice day.

You obviously put a lot of work into being so stupid. I congratulate you on your expertise in the field.
Stupid and insane. Is that really what Lockergnome’s moderators have been reduced to?

Steve Willson, you’re welcome to your opinion. Your comment stands only because I don’t believe in censorship. It adds nothing to the discussion, nor does it make any corrections to content.

The rampant partisanship of the formerly great NYT is the reason I get my political analysis from other places, like this one…
Pakistan Emergency

Pakistan emergency: Musharraf backs himself into an even tighter corner.
More Right leaning opinions there than Left, but always well reasoned, never partisan, and NEVER hysterical…

I do resent the implication you made with this statement; ” Who does this woman think she is? Oh, yes, she is the mouthpiece for the petty little dictator we have allowed to reign here.” My dear kind sir, I need to let you know that this is a free country and I do wish you would exercise that freedom by ” LEAVING THIS GREAT LAND”, and keeping your petty little b*tches, which by the way most of us TRY to ignore knowing your track record for making an ass out of yourself. I DO REALLY GET TIRED OF YOU BERATING OUR FORM OF GOVERNMENT. I’ll repeat it one more time for you ” LOVE IT OF LEAVE IT”!

Joey, are you one of those people who remains happy as long as the militia leaves you in your home? Do you not see the erosion of everyone’s liberty, bit by bit, by the current administration?
You must be thinking that there is no problem, until it touches you directly.
Did you ever study history? Do you think that the only point of the American Revolution was the ending of quartering of British troops? So that, if no one does anything to you in your home, things are fine?
Are you amenable to the torture of people that you don’t personally know?
More to the point - do you think you know, in any little detail, the personal struggle of the people of Iraq? I know I don’t, and I’m sure that George Bush and Condoleeza Rice don’t. (If they had a clue, the death toll of this little skirmish would not be north of 4000, and we would not have to be worried about a debt load that will fall on our children.)
Study for just a few minutes the list of “friendly rulers” this government has put into power, because it was beneficial to us at the time. In the end, it generated a great deal of enmity toward the U.S., which does us no good now.
One last thing - do you have any idea how (that is, the mechanism) many great countries throughout history fell? (Hint: It was not because they were attacked)
Have a nice day. You have enjoyed your right to free speech, I’ll enjoy mine.

Steve, Joey, after looking around today, I see that I am not the Lone Ranger on this one - Fred Kaplan over at Slate magazine has a similar opinion of the current mess in Pakistan. Perhaps you’ll find his reasons better than mine, but the outcome is the same.
