Whoops! Apple Shown Not Invincible - Steps in It with Latest Upgrade

  • No Related Post

While everyone’s favorite whipping boy is any of the big boys in Redmond, the latest operating system from Apple has some bugs that would have people rioting in the streets if Microsoft had done it.

At least Vista doesn’t bluescreen during initial install.

Apparently Apple is taking a page from the Microsoft book, and not fully testing the most common circumstances of software loaded on their computers. According to the support document, the problem is related to application enhancement software, referred to as APE.

Removal of this is taking care of the problem for some, but not all. Some customers are seeing the bluescreen errors without having the APE installed.

Well - it looks like it’s time for Professor Crashcup to go back to the drawing board.

This is a 3rd party, unsupported by Apple application that is not Leopard compatible. And, there’s a solution, see:

This is not Apple’s fault. Just as some NT programs didn’t run right on Windows 2000, and Windows 95 stuff may or may not run right on Windows XP (even with compatibility mode in some cases). The software author needs to update their software to support the latest OS.

I was simply going by articles over the weekend and this morning in itwire, computerworld, and zdnet. I know that they were not specific as to what it was, and that it was third party, however, not a one stated that it had specifically been disallowed. ALSO, there were reports of BSODs on systems not using that software.

I’m not an Apple hater, I simply was summarizing what I read and adding a note that Apple does (sometimes) make mistakes.

Anthony, thanks for the comment btw - I just had to use those Clyde Crashcup pix!

No problem I just wanted to get the whole story out. :) I have Leopard on multiple machines (Intel and PowerPC) and while is certainly isn’t perfect/flawless, I do like it more than I liked Tiger, which was a good OS too.

BTW I have seen Vista crash during setup before. :) I’ve also seen Vista run pretty decently, depending on the hardware configuration/software, etc.

I don’t fault the OS necessarily, although sometimes the OS may be the thing that’s at fault.
