Sony Gets Help With PS3

In an effort to reduce the cost of producing the PS3 console, Sony today announced that it will be outsourcing some of the build to Foxconn.
This is a move away from ASUSTek, which has been producing much of the hardware up to this point. Foxconn has a proven record with Sony, as the company is currently producing the PS2 consoles, which still outsell the PS3 offerings.
The Foxconn units with 80GB drives will shave a full $100 from the list price, dropping to $499. Also, when the 60GB models that are currently in the sales channel are depleted, Sony will introduce a 40GB model, which will drop the price of the PS3 another $100, to $399.
Sony plans to make things much more interesting for those who might have planned to purchase an Xbox 360 simply due to pricing. Who knows what may occur by Christmas?
