Sometimes It’s Good to Be a Man!

Unlike so many other areas of living, it seems that for recovery after arthroscopic surgery for tears of the meniscus, men heal better and more quickly.
The article states also that something usually leaned on by doctors up until this study - overweight people fare worse in recovery - is completely wrong:
- Study: Men recover better than women from “keyhole” knee surgery
- Study looked at predictors of short-term recovery after partial meniscectomy
- Procedure uses endoscope rather open incision to remove damaged cartilage
- Patient age, body mass index had no impact on recovery; gender did
Not understood is why the differences are so, but the results are clear. This should be a cautionary tale for women, who are getting more and more of these operations due to increasingly active lifestyles. Everyone should take care of their knees, as they are the most easily injured joint in the body, but women should take special care to stay sound in this area.
