Today, Wal-Mart began selling PCs from Everex that feature Windows Vista, and no bloatware, also known as crapware.
The systems also come with Open Office 2.2 installed, and use a Via 1.5GHz C7-D processor, which includes many energy saving features implemented by Intel and AMD. The system doesn’t include a monitor, but at the price still allows an energy saving LCD display to be added keeping the total under $450.
It remains to be seen if the slower CPU will be able to impress the buyers with the burden of the Vista operating system.
An interesting note is that this Everex is the company of old, not another case of a good name being bought by a foreign company and used for its name recognition. They also must have some deal with Microsoft, as plastered all around its Web site is the phrase ‘A world above and beyond Windows XP’ with the Vista globe nearby.

Will be a great failure. There are sales with dual chips and 19″ LCD for ~$600, For a little less you get a very slow CPU. Most purchasers are not aware of “crapware”–mostly us think we are smart types. One hope is people will buy it and it will work enough so they will be happy but slow.

name required - I’m not so sure about this. I know everyday I have people who refuse to see the economy of scale. They will carp about spending an extra $20 to get the difference between 300 and 500GB of drive space. People that are that price sensitive are going to love something at $299, which, as anyone in sales knows, is worlds better than $300.
