Is There A Market For Religious Action Figures?

  • No Related Post

File Under: what were they thinking?

In a move that will amuse some and confound others, the world’s largest retailer has decided the time is right to begin selling what are described as religious action figures.

On the shelves, right along side the likenesses of Wonder Woman, G.I. Joe, Captain America, Superman, and The Incredible Hulk, will soon be figures of Jesus and Samson.

The sales will start slow, in only about 420 of the 3,300 stores in the United States. No mention of where the stores chosen will be located, but the cynic in me says that the two coastal areas of the country are probably not on the launch list. Further investigation tells us that the stores selling the most bibles will be the ones to get shipments of these figures.

The idea that we need religious action figures is one of the mysteries of life that we may never know, and asking why is likely to elicit examples of why one should not ask. This campaign generally shows that some people today, much like some children, have too much time on their hands, and too many non-directed thought processes.

Don’t be so sure of yourself there, Skippy. My son has had ‘action figures’ of David and Goliath for a couple of years now (a gift from a relative), and they are among his favorite toys. Why is this so odd to you?

It’s always easy for those of no faith not to have any, isn’t it?

By the way, we live in one of the two ‘coastal areas’ you believe the toys won’t be popular in. I guess people who believe in God just don’t like the beach, huh? Or is it that you think only the un-sophisticated, uninformed citizenry populate the heartland?

You probably should start examining your own narrow mind before writing nonsense like this in the future.

Ironically, the guy who created the original G.I.Joe (Don Levine) is behind one of these lines of Bible action figures (Almighty Heroes).

Jim, being a Christian, and living in California, I seem to be the polar opposite of what you think, aren’t I?
I do think that if you think about it, more of these will be sold in the ‘red states’ than the ‘blue states’. I also think that children on the coasts have more varied activities than those in the midwest. I highly doubt that many teenagers in Oklahoma surf, or that many young children in Idaho are taking tennis lessons. Life is different, not just values. [ Believe me, it sometimes gets pretty lonely at social gatherings. - Ooooh, you're one of those.]
I don’t however, see the need for any of this. I did not need G.I Joe, Superman, or Captain America action figures, nor do I need Samson, David, Joshua, or Daniel with realistic lion’s den.
As for my mind, it is broader than most I know, and my tolerance of people, however they exist, grows more each day.
Have a nice day, thanks for the comment, say hi to your son, and do him a favor…buy him a book.

Travis, good to know, thanks. As I stated above, I really don’t see a need for this, and while I won’t say this kind of stuff causes harm, I do think books are SO much more beneficial.

Thanks for the comment.

The one thing that has really piqued my curiousity is the TALKING Jesus doll - what words of wisdom is our Saviour going to be telling our children, and who got the honour of doing the voice-over ;);)

Kevin, that’s good question. I’m not sure what would be best. Probably something in the middle registers, so the kids don’t get scared. Don’t want either James Earl Jones, or Pee Wee Herman.

Thanks for the comment.
