Intel to Join OLPC

Though not specifically chosen to supply the processors for the One Laptop Per Child program for developing nations, Intel has decided to magnanimously contribute funds to the project.

AMD processors are to be used, but with Intel bullying their way into the fold with money, it will be interesting to see how long the switch to Intel processors will take.  Intel had designed its own laptop, christened the Classmate, and was causing problems, because many nations were choosing the Intel model, although it was slightly more expensive.

The chipmaker now has a foot in the door,  being on the board of directors, so it is only a matter of time. Perhaps the old single core processors lying around will find a home in those laptops.
